Description
Hematite (iron oxide), also known as Alaska Black Diamond has such a high sheen when polished that long ago it was used for mirrors. Hematite is a mineral, colored black to steel or silver-gray, brown to reddish brown, or red. It is mined as the main ore of iron ore. The name Serpentine comes from the Latin serpentinus, meaning “serpent rock,” because it’s thought to resemble the skin of a snake. Serpentine is also referred to as “New Jade.”
